The Olympic fencing test event (The London Invitational) takes place 26th and 27th November at the ExCel Centre in London. This operational trial will test out the venue, competition kit and preparation for event build, timings, electrical requirements and a whole host of other functional considerations. The venue will be tried out by 32 of the best men’s foilists in the world from seven different nations, in a direct elimination format. On Saturday 26th November the individual competition takes place, with the team event running on Sunday 27th.
Great Britain as host nation will be represented by eight athletes; Richard Kruse, Laurence Halsted, Ed Jefferies, Jamie Kenber, James Davies, Keith Cook, Husayn Rosowsky and Marcus Mepstead. Eight teams from seven nations are taking part; USA, Russia, Germany, Italy, China, Poland and a Great Britain ‘A’ and Great Britain ‘B’ team.
As well as fencing the ExCel Centre will play home to the following sports in 2012:
- Boxing
- Wrestling
- Judo
- Tae Kwon Do
- Weight-lifting
- Table tennis
