This weekend the British Men’s Foilist team competed in the Challenge Rommel in Paris, taking a solid seventh place at the end of the tournament. This is a satisfactory result at the start of the new season, and gives the team something positive to build on during the year and in the impending build up to the Olympic Games.
Japan, Russia and then Italy topped the tournament rankings after the weekend, in this, one of the most prestigious events on the Men’s Foil calendar.
With teammates Richard Kruse and Laurence Halsted struggling to find their usual fine form, Ed Jeffries put in an impressive individual performance, losing very narrowly to Valerio Aspromonte of Italy, ranked 6th in the world, in a spirited and brave fight.
The team has returned to the UK to train ahead of their next competition.
