In her first season as a junior GB fencer, Aliya Itzkowitz, 17 years old, from London took the silver medal at only her second Junior World Cup in Dormagen, Germany.
Ranked 16th after the first round, Itzkowitz, comfortably beat both Chapuis (FRA) and Krueger (GER) 15-8. She then faced the tough prospect of the number one seed Kindler (GER) but beat her comfortably 15-6.
In the quarter final she faced another German in Musch and prevailed after a tight fight 15-12. Next up was Watora (POL) and Itzkowitz fenced smartly to win 15-9. Navarria (ITA) proved too strong in the final won 15-6.
This result means that Itzkowitz climbs to 34th in the World rankings.
