In the Men’s Sabre Madrid World Cup, 20 year old Truro based James Honeybone finished an impressive 41st, following on from Sophie Williams’ success (also from Truro) last weekend. Honeybone was the top ranking Brit in the competition, with compatriots Curtis Miller and Alexander Crutchett also finishing in the top 100, coming 81st and 96th respectively.
In the team event, after losing to Italy (45-29), USA (45-27) and Poland (a respectable 45-40), GB eventually took 15th place after beating Turkey (45-35).
It was a disappointing weekend for British epeeists in the individual Challenge Bernadotte Stockholm event in Sweden, where the top three GB finishers were Jon Willis (79th), Tom Bennett (106th), and Gregory Allen (137th). James Thornton was forced to pull out through injury at the beginning of the week, and is expected to be out until early June.
