George Hendrie, 16, made the finals in the Cadet European Circuit event in Warsaw last weekend.  The Midhurst fencer has now made consecutive finals on the circuit having achieved the same result in Paris a week earlier.

Hendrie came through two rounds of poules in Warsaw dropping only three fights, leaving him 44th seed for the knockout stages.

Going on to beat tough opposition from Poland, Latvia and France, Hendrie made it to the top 8 where he faced Russian opponent, Degtiarev. He fell 15-8 with the Russian outdoing him with very late ripostes.
After the event the fencer said, “This is undoubtedly the highest profile result of my career to date.”  Coach, Nelson-Griffiths added, “George has immense talent and this result along with the result in Paris last weekend is only a taster of what we can expect in the future.  There is no reason why he should not attain the heights that some of the great fencers from this stable have achieved in the past.”
